‘Hydration Sensation’ Tea Party Wins Food Challenge

Ainsley Harriott visits Honey Lane to present prize

Honey Lane Care Home in Waltham Abbey today (October 20^th) was awarded a prize of £1000 of gardening vouchers by celebrity chef Ainsley Harriot for their Hydration Sensation Tea Party.

This was in response to a competition launched by Ainsley earlier this year aimed at encouraging all the homes in Honey Lane’s group to come up with new, creative and innovative dining experiences for residents that can be sustained in the years ahead.

Ainsley was treated to soups, smoothies and ice creams dining with residents, the team and Julie Malone, Care Home Practitioner from SEPT Food First, who had worked with the team to ensure their new menu met the hydration and nutritional needs of older people. He then presented the home with the gardening vouchers, which will help develop their fruit and vegetable garden where home grown ingredients are used for their soups and smoothies.

Karen Dean, Honey Lane’s manager said: “What a fantastic result! The team have worked so hard to come up with a truly wonderful idea that will have a really beneficial impact on our residents for years to come. I am so proud that they are being rewarded”.

Ainsley said: “It is very heartening to see a care home investing so much in not just the quality of the food they are serving to their residents but also the way in which they serve it.  Keeping elderly people stimulated and interested in food is so important and ultimately life enhancing.  Well done Honey Lane”
