Dementia Day care

Dementia day service

At Honey Lane Care Home, we understand the unique challenges of caring for a loved one living with dementia. Our specialist dementia day care service provides a safe, supportive, and enriching environment, while offering family carers a well-deserved break.

Our experienced and compassionate team is led by Angie Sack, a Qualified Dementia Interpreter.  Our home is registered to support individuals both under and over 65, including those living with early-onset dementia – including Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, Lewy Body, frontotemporal, and mixed dementia.

We focus exclusively on dementia care, ensuring every visitor to our home in Waltham Abbey feels loved, supported and understood by a friendly and caring team. Although we do not provide nursing care, we ensure all practical needs are met, including assistance with taking medication.

What is dementia day care?

Day care services can often be found within a community centre or care home and give older people the specialist care and support they need for the day, whilst their caregiver takes a break.

Dementia day care at Honey Lane promotes emotional wellbeing, mental stimulation, and a sense of community.  We welcome regular day care visitors who quickly feel part of our happy home. Most guests visit regularly, typically arriving mid-morning and leaving around 4pm. Their visit includes a hot, two-course lunch, entertainment and activities, and use of the lounges and garden. Families can also pre-book hair appointments at our salon.

The benefits of day care

Day care benefits everyone involved. For individuals living with dementia, it offers a structured routine, social interaction, and tailored dementia-friendly activities that promote health and wellbeing. For carers, it provides peace of mind, knowing their loved one is cared for by specialists who understand and prioritise their needs.

At Honey Lane, we are committed to creating a warm, welcoming environment where residents can enjoy life and where families feel supported every step of the way. Our team is always here to offer professional guidance, advice, and emotional support whenever you need it.

Our person-centred approach means we adapt activities and care plans to suit each individual’s preferences and abilities, focussing on what people can do, not what they can’t. From music and movement sessions to arts and crafts, reminiscence activities, and sensory stimulation, every activity is designed to enhance cognitive stimulation and wellbeing. So, whether your loved one thrives in group activities or prefers quieter, one-on-one interactions, our team ensures their experience is positive and fulfilling.
