The Queen’s Green Canopy Copy

To mark the Platinum Jubilee, Honey Lane Care Home residents were joined by the Mayor of Epping Forest District Council to plant a Copper Beech tree.

We were thrilled to welcome some very special guests to our Jubilee celebrations including local Mayor, Councillor Jeane Lea, who gave a speech and planted a tree for The Queen’s Green Canopy; a unique tree-planting initiative to create an environmental legacy to benefit future generations.

A poll was held for residents and the home team with the Copper Beech coming out ‘top of the trees’. Our resident Betty was delighted to be appointed ‘Queen of Honey Lane’ and had a wonderful time dressing up as Her Majesty and giving the royal wave beside the Mayor!

“The Queen’s Green Canopy is a wonderful way to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee and it’s a lovely memory that will last forever in our home, as we are able to watch the tree grow”, says Betty.

Later, a time capsule, put together by residents, was buried beside the newly planted sapling. It contained memorabilia from our home’s Jubilee celebrations including a pull-out supplement from a daily newspaper, a Platinum Jubilee flag and photographs of our home’s own celebrations to show how this milestone Jubilee was commemorated for future generations.

Home manager Marta Leszko said: “This Jubilee has been so special for our residents. They have all been very engaged in the choosing of the tree and excited about the planting ceremony.  It will be a permanent and very beautiful reminder – for residents and the team alike – of the Queen and her incredible achievements.”
